It is so easy to create a goal in your head, then lose sight of it the second something goes awry. How do you stick to your goals and see yourself crossing the finish line?
Planning
It sounds so simple, but planning ahead can help you achieve the milestones which will lead you to the finish line!
This includes:
- Writing your goal down: include a final date and write in pencil so things can be amended as needed.
- Developing a road map: include rest days, holiday plans and mini-markers (ex. 5k on the way to a full marathon)
- Visualize your success: Remember when mom used to put that 'A+' on the fridge? Do the same with your goal markers, show them with pride on the fridge, a success board or whatever helps keep you on track.

Im not nailing my goals (I know. Ill let that sink in :))
I have some great reasons (ZERO TIME) but I also feel and KNOW in my heart of hearts that it is all an excuse.
I need to decide if my goals as STILL my goals and if YES then why Im not actively working to achieve! (and if not---I need new ones :))
For tracking health and fitness goals, I use a simple weekly calendar as a silent accountability partner of sorts. Each day, I record my minutes exercised and the type (ST, for strength training, C for cardio). I also jot down any out-of-the-ordinary splurges I have. It's working really well.
For other goals, I'm struggling. To-do lists have worked well for me in the past, as I loved the satisfaction of checking things "done", but the lists aren't doing the trick just now. I'm still working on it though. :)
I have weritten down goals as intentions. It's been good so far.
I like tracking my progress. It's motivating to look back and think WOW! Also, I like trying out new activities- it's motivating.
Well, I had taken a break just to see if sticking with what I had lost [I had lost 100 or so pounds - I don't use a scale so I'm not sure exactly how much] would be easy or difficult. It was something I needed to see about before going any farther.
Well, I stuck at maintaining for a whole year without a bauble [until the protein bars experiment - but that was rectified in less than a week]. So, I finally decided to try stepping a little farther down the track.
Right now I'm trying to build more muscle [I want me some guns] and tone up further. I don't feel my wings have shrunk at all [my main nemesis], but I determinedly keep working at it. Every other upper body exercise targets those damn things. They sure are stubborn ...
My other goal was to maintain a variety in workouts. I found some new ones that I really like and so have swap outs every six weeks ... or mood dependant.
Hello Rupal, you're so right about writing down our goals and that includes our food. For the first time in my life, I hired a fitness trainer. He's keeping track of my weight, measurements, and exercise so that makes things easier for me. He gave me Linda's menu plan, which I follow, but I still transpose that food into weight watcher points and write them in the little WW journal because it also tracks my water, dairy, veggies and fruits. I only work out with Josh 3 days a week, so my journal also lets me track the two miles I walk in the park or currently I'm enjoying the Turbo Dance DVD's. Gotta have that music! I feel fantastic right now at this stage of my life (53 yrs old) and nothin's gonna slow me down. Linda
